“As a party of eight Hidden Villa gave us the space and facilities we needed to enjoy our stay. The children loved playing on the generous sized lawn and in the swimming pool. With two massive living spaces in the villa it was easy to find a quiet space to read a book. Rooms are generous in size. Shinta’s interior designs and soft furnishings give the villa a calm and peaceful feel. The villa staff were friendly and helpful. All the villa information provided upon booking was useful and helped us in planning our stay. The villa is a short walk to the beach, where our children did surf lessons in the morning. “Thao and I had booked Hidden Villa to host a Balinese Blessing. As we entered the property for the first time we were so happy. The pictures do not do the garden-pool area justice. A massive tree provides a canopy of shade over most of the grassed area. The garden is full of colour and greenery and above all else the place is quiet. Our room was perfect and our guests in the other rooms were very impressed. The bathrooms are all massive and artfully decorated. The staff at the villa are very attentive, friendly and calm. “LOCATION: This is a fantastic location if you’re looking to stay in Canggu and not wanting to use a car or scooter too much. Most of the shops and restaurants in Canggu are within walking distance (a 10 min walk along the road to Pantai Batu Bolong St or 15 min walk along the beach to Finn’s Beach Club, and 25mins to Quince). If you want to escape the heat hiring a scooter will get you everywhere quickly. I stayed with a 7-week-old baby so that wasn’t an option for us, walking with the baby in a carrier was fine and easy though (I’d avoid bringing a pram). PROPERTY: The villa is as beautiful as the images and exactly as others described. The bedrooms and bathrooms are huge and clean. SERVICE: The owners and staff are absolutely lovely, and very helpful. Airport transfers were easily sorted and the night security guard would even carry and entertain my baby while I was eating dinner (SMILEYFACE). Excellent WiFi too. TIPS: Great for families and friends, good for little babies (bring your home monitor and you can leave them in the room and the monitor will still work by the pool or in the dining areas). “We are just home from an 8 night stay at Hidden Villa & Hidden River Cottage. We had the most amazing time! The villa & cottage was perfect for our group of 8 adults & 8 kids (4 families). We each had our own space (ideal for naps), but the communal living areas, massive grass space & pool were perfect for the kids & the adults to hang out together. The staff were so so friendly, helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble! They arranged a pool fence, cooked dinner meals for the kids, prepared breakfasts, arranged drivers & laundry, and most of all interacted so well with our kids! The location is perfect with kids- an easy stroll to the beach and the main areas of Canggu- bars, restaurants, etc. Streets are not too busy and easily pram accessible. We can’t wait to go back! It’s proximity to the beach and all of the fun of Canggu was fantastic, with a great coffee shop across the road. The staff at the villa cook breakfast every day and keep the place spotless. They helped organise our laundry and also massages and transport. The rooms are beautifully decorated and include all the modern conveniences such as tv/dvd players. There is even a massage room!! “I’m normally a lazy reviewer but considering how good our stay was I thought I’d take the time to properly write something! Nine of us (4 adults, 4 children and a baby) had a wonderful stay at this amazing place. We now understand why it is so hard to get a booking here and why Paul and Shinta are considered ‘superhosts’ after experiencing their responsiveness and the thought they put into providing us all required information in advance of our stay. The villa more than delivered – we will heartily recommend it to everyone and will be returning ourselves! The photos of the villa don’t it justice. This is an amazingly open space that all the family can relax in. The gardens are like a well looked after botanic park and the pool is spotless and quite large (10 metres long and 3-4 metres wide). The decorations are lovely with each bedroom having a substantial en-suite. It’s spotlessly clean and the beds (including the brand new cot) are top shelf. Our kids loved running around the grassed area next to the fenced off pool/ open dining area and after they crashed out we would sit around a relax while listening to the waves crashing at the beach. The location is superb. It’s super close to the beach (important as we often were carrying a 16 month old) so every night we would watch the sunset on the beach with a cold drink. It’s close to transport routes – which means you can easily get in and out and get things delivered) but you can’t hear any traffic from the road. The villa is close to amazing cafes and restaurants. We particularly rated the coffee at Zin cafe (less than 100 metres away) and kid friendly meals at Fat Mermaid (maybe 200 meteres away). We also took advantage of the low cost but high quality surfing lessons down the road. The villa staff were friendly and responsive. They went out of their way to look after us and seemed to genuinely like our kids. We really rated the breakfast they cooked and the welcome smoothies were a god send after the long flight! “A large group of friends and I recently had the good fortune of staying at this amazing villa. Hidden Villa was stunning and provided us with a great base for relaxing and exploring. Each of the 5 rooms were unique, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are all spacious and amazingly designed. The location is pretty much unbeatable for its location in Canggu. It’s just a short 5 minute walk to the beach – at night you can hear the waves landing on the beach. Very soothing! Once at the beach a five minute stroll in one direction is Batu Bolong and 10 minutes the other direction is Finns Beach Club. But the villa remains quiet and peaceful. We really wanted to escape the sound of scooters or cars going by outside, which can be hard to do in Bali, but with Hidden Villa, this isn’t the case. Just peaceful and serene!! Most days began with a swim in the sea followed by jumping in the pool. That would set us up for a delicious, hearty breakfast, served by the local staff. The staff were one of the best parts of the holiday… you felt like you were leaving friends at the end of the stay! The beds were comfy, the ACs and wifi signal were strong. All in all a perfect place to escape and unwind with family and friends. And one final point: for a group of ten (as we were), Hidden Villa was immense value. Having stayed in Bali many times and explored many other villas in Canggu before booking we found that most places this close to the beach were two, or even three times the price of Hidden Villa. I don’t think you will find such a high quality, beautifully designed and styled villa so close to the beach for anything near this price. “We have just left Hidden Villa after 10 fabulous nights. From the moment we booked until we checked out our experience was nothing but perfect. Paul and Shinta were really prompt with responding to any questions we had and were proactive in sending us info about the villa. We arranged transport and for some supplies to be delivered to the villa for our arrival and there was no hitch. The villa itself is gorgeous – it’s spacious and the decor is so much better than the photos suggest – it felt as though I was staying in my favourite homewares shops with the eclectic Bali decor. When we arrived we worried that the villa would feel too large for just the two of us but we needn’t have worried – we relaxed into it very quickly. The staff made our stay – Ayu, Rai, Kedak and Wayan went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable yet we’re never in our space. Breakfasts were served whenever we were ready whether that was 8am or 10.30am after a surf. Nyoman and Ketut on security were always delightful for a chat and it was good to know that although we were in a very quiet lane that there was someone on watch. We had massages in the villa almost every day which was so much nicer than going to a noisy salon and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely be back to Hidden Villa again in the future and would recommend this as a place to stay for a couple, a group or a family. It’s Villa life at its best. “My family and I stayed in Hidden Villa in early December and had a wonderful time. It was the perfect place for our large family and met the needs or my parents, my sister and the children. The place really is truly beautiful, with a crystal clear pool and lovely garden. The beds are super comfy and the whole place is stunningly decorated. The piano is also a really nice touch for those that fancy a tinkle on the ivories. The place is staffed with very helpful and friendly Balinese housemaids and security guards who were always on hand if we needed anything. Furthermore, the owners, Shinta and Paul – who are actually based in Jakarta – did a great job at communicating before and during our stay to make the whole experience stress-free. We should also say that Hidden Villa is perfectly located in the heart of up-and-coming Canggu. It’s on a sleepy road called Jalan Nelayan just a 2 minute walk from the surf beach but the great thing is that all the action of Batu Bolong is just a 5 minute walk down the beach or a 10 minute walk down the road. On the other hand, the new Finn’s Beach Club in Berawa is just 10 minutes walk down the beach in the other direction. You can reach Seminyak along the beach if you keep pushing on further after that. There a few small places to eat along Jalan Nelayan and lots more along Jalan Batu Bolong. So you get the peace and quiet of a beautiful villa, just 2 minutes from the beach, but at the same time, can easily dip into the bar, cafe and resto scene of happening Canggu and Berawa. Further afield, Ubud, great for a day trip, is just over an hour away and the Tanah Lot temple is about 30 minutes away by car (car and driver can also be rented from Hidden Villa). “If you’re looking for a private, peaceful villa with five bedrooms in Canggu, and within walking distance to the beach, then look no further than Hidden Villa and Hidden River Cottage. The place itself is absolutely stunning – with each of the rooms beautifully furnished with a good blend of all the usual mod cons being complemented by unique, Balinese decoration. The super friendly staff and super easy communication with the owner, Shinta, also made for a completely wonderful stay. The whole place is wonderful but special praise is reserved for the bedrooms. These all feature comfy beds and amazing en suite bathrooms, with the Master suite also having an ajoining spa/massage room (which was put to full use during our stay!). The attached cottage is actually a fabulous one bedroom villa with separate areas for living, eating and relaxing. It’s got its own little garden and pool and a balcony that looks out over the river. It was a perfect “retreat within a retreat” for my parents who could effortlessly get some rest and privacy when needed. However, with the doors open along the connecting passageway the Cottage blends effortlessly into the main villa. The location could also not be any better. Our kids were able to walk to the surf in 2 minutes! And while Nelayan beach is relatively sleepy, we soon realised that we were in fact in the heart of Canggu – with Finn’s beach club a short walk down the beach in one direction and Old Man’s bar (very happening on Wednesdays!) and echo beach a short walk down the beach in the other direction. We were able to stroll to the beach bars and restaurants, as well as all the cafes and bars along Batu Bolong whilst also being able to easily retreat to the serenity of the villa and cottage. For trips to Seminyak and elsewhere we were easily able to take the scooters or car and driver that the staff organised. In sum, we had the best time at this place. As mentioned, the place is drop dead gorgeous and the friendly staff and the owner’s super efficient communication made for a extremely relaxing and peaceful, first, family holiday to Canggu. “We wanted to start our two week journey to Bali with kids (9,7) with a total winding down experience away from the main tourist areas and Hidden Villa ticked all the boxes for us. Being so close to the beach was great and we could easily venture down in two minutes to grab a bite at the local warungs and well as the popular Old Man’s Restaurant a five minute walk up the beach. The villa was stunning from the furnishings, tiles and electic collection of Indonesian antiques scattered around. The bedrooms are very large and all the rooms, even the bathrooms had ceiling fans which we loved. The gardens were beautiful running down to the pool overlooking the river. Our kids really enjoyed all the spaces and had fun exploring the grounds, finding their own little ‘hidden’ places to play or chill out. The staff were excellent and cooked us an amazing meal on our first night. The owners were an absolute pleasure to communicate with and could not do enough to make sure our stay was perfect. Shinta helped us with everything, was great at communicating before our arrival and organised surf lessons for our son and horse riding on the beach for my wife and daughter. The villa itself is of the highest quality, with a well-thought out layout, peaceful garden and crystal clear pool. Its location could also not be better. Being a short stroll to the beach this really is ideal for families with young, active kids who are also looking for high-quality accommodation. I would also second Brian’s point below that this is extremely good value. We’ve stayed in many villas in Bali – indeed in Canggu – but we normally pay twice as much as we paid here and have often ended up much further away from the beach. Close to the beach, with a pool, plenty of space for a 3 year old to explore, not in hectic Seminyak, and all the amenities and comforts I need – and at the right price. We saw many villas at well over $1,000/night for 4 bedrooms around Canggu. Hidden Villa at the fraction of those prices is a steal. Big time! The garden is lovely. The pool cool and inviting. You can fall asleep napping in any of the rooms and hear the waves breaking. Or walk 5 minutes and ride the waves. Idyllic. Staff is great and super helpful. Wifi works fine and fast enough. “What a lovely place with lots of character. My wife said this place has soul. Shinta’s villa has unique design which makes it feel like a real home rather than a box like lots of other villas in Bali. It feels really big as well. Huge bathrooms. We hired motorbike to explore Canggu and surrounding areas and Shinta gave lots of advices about places to go. We went to Ubud in one hour but prefer to stay in this villa because close to beach. It was exactly what I was looking for – walking distance to the beach & restaurants but quiet enough to feel as though I was away from everything. The living area is large and airy and leads out onto a small grass area and the small pool that is perfect for cooling off after lying on one of the sun lounges. They were easily reachable, and when requested if they knew a good driver that could take us around the area, they immediately arranged it for us. We were greeted warmly upon arrival, and taken to the beautiful villa. “Shinta and Paul were fantastic hosts! From the very start, they got in contact with me via WhatsApp, checking in about my booking and providing loads of helpful information. At my request, they organised for a driver to pick us up from the airport, which was a flawless process (I highly recommend doing this as it makes the experience so much easier!). The ‘Cottage’ itself is just like the photos and exactly as described by other reviewers. It backs onto a river and is so close to the beach so not only is it very peaceful and quiet but close enough to the beach that you can hear the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore. The privacy of the cottage is perfect for a couple, and the plunge pool was more than sufficient for a dip into the water on a hot day. The place is clean and well kept, and the staff are all amicable and helpful. The location of the accommodation is quite possibly one of the best places to stay in Canggu. “First of all, we had an amazing stay in Paul‘s and Shinta‘s home and would definitively recommend it to everyone visiting Canggu. It is perfectly located, 1 min walk to the beach and close to many restaurants and cafes. We recommend hiring a scooter from the villa to reach everything faster and easier. We were welcomed by a staff member (they are always available, are cleaning the house everyday and at night a security guy is present) as well as by Paul. They had great tips for us and we immediately felt at home. The cottage is very big and clean. In the garden, there is a nice little pool with two sun beds. The open kitchen and the living room are really comfortable. The bedroom is upstairs, very big comfy bed, great AC, a balcony and and a second small bathroom. The WiFi is extremely good, even in the garden. Canggu is a great place for holidays. There are plenty of surfing schools near the cottage, as well as for yoga and fitness classes. We also recommend the Avenue Fitness gym (7 min by scooter ). The beach was clean and hardly any rocks. There are several small supermarkets in walking distance and also many ATMs. The cottage is a good starting point for day trips – we went to Ubud, the rice fields and some waterfalls. Surf beach only a few minutes walk at the end of the street. Neighbourhood is very quiet – a bonus in noisy Bali. A few small restaurants nearby, and a lot more in the main street. Also handy among these shops is a CBA AutoTeller. Daily cleaning is by staff of the adjacent Villa. Communication with owners Paul & Shinta was always prompt. This was especially the case when I, a single traveler, was left stranded beyond my booking by the closure of Bali airport through eruptions of Mt Agung. Paul & Shinta generously allowed me to stay 2 extra nights free of charge until I was able to take a bus to Surabaya and from there flights back home. “Really quiet little villa as the names suggests. Easy walk to the beach, living cafe, and other eats. Staff were fantastic and very helpful. Can walk to the main Canggu street with all the shops and cafes that heads down to batu boblong beach but would recommend a scooter. AC was fantastic, villa was lovely clean and spacious and completely seperate from the larger villa next door. Plunge pool was nice as well. “Even if you tried, you wouldn’t be able to find better hosts than Paul and Shinta. Paul, Shinta and their staff were extremely helpful, kind, friendly and welcoming, making our stay in Bali comfortable, and extremely relaxing. As soon as we booked, a group chat was set up, and in the months leading up to our trip, Paul and Shinta were always ready to answer any kind of questions we had about the accommodation or surrounding areas. This was extremely helpful when me and my girlfriend were planning things to do around Bali. When we arrived, our holiday actually coincided with Paul and Shinta’s, meaning they were not only our hosts, but also our neighbours for a short period. During this time, they were both extremely accommodating and always happy to chat to us and not only recommend things for us to do, but were also happy to help organise our activities by organising drivers or scooter rentals. The villa staff are extremely friendly and are always on hand to help out with anything you need. Additionally, the villa has its own security team which watch over the accommodation at night, adding extra peace of mind. With regards to the actual accommodation, it was superb. Always clean and tidy, extremely spacious and beautifully decorated. The location is perfect, just a short walk to the beach and local shops. It’s located on a sleepy road, meaning it’s nice and quiet during the evenings, however in the next road over you can find a street full of restaurants, bars, shops etc. Meaning it is perfect for all types of guests. The area of Canggu is great, the surf culture creates an extremely relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. I would definitely recommend taking a surf lesson, or failing that, grabbing a couple of Bintangs, sitting on the sand and watching the beach come to life with surfers, families, and travelers as the sun goes down. The Hidden River Cottage is a great place to spend your vacation in Canggu. It is located in a side street in Canggu but both beach and the main street with lots of cafes, restaurants and shops are within just a couple of minutes walking distance. The staff gave me a very warm welcome and were always open for a small chat. Both the hosts and staff on site are very helpful when it comes to organization of sightseeing and transport and communication is smooth and very easy. During the whole stay I had the feeling to be taken care off. The cottage itself has everything you will need – a fully equipped kitchen, shower bath and bedroom with TV and balcony as well as a small garden with a dipping pool which is just the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunshine. “Our stay at the Hidden River Cottage was AMAZING!!! From the second we booked it, communication with Paul and Shinta was superb! They provided so much useful information before our arrival and are very attentive and helpful hosts! We sadly didn’t get a chance to meet them while we were there but we felt so very taken care of by their amazing staff!! Ayu met us on our arrival and showed us around and she was just the sweetest most genuine person, we felt very welcomed. The cottage itself is just wonderful, just like the pictures but better! It has the perfect layout for two people, we loved the pool and everything about it. The location is wonderful, a 1 minute walk to the beach and well within walking distance of many, many fun restaurants and bars. “Hidden River Cottage is a stunning little cottage just two minutes from the beach. Myself and my girlfriend stayed here in late August and had the best time. The cottage is ideal for couples looking for peaceful, private, high quality accommodation in the heart of Canggu. At first, the place feels quite sleepy but when you start to explore, you realise that Hidden River Cottage is in the heart of the Canggu action. Finn’s beach club is a 10 minute walk away down the beach whereas the Echo Beach restaurants are a nice, 15 minute walk going the other way. So ideally located for the beach (in fact, we couldn’t find any other 1 bedroom places so close to the beach), and also really good for access to all the cafes, bars and boutiques along Batu Bolong street (you can walk there in 10 minutes). The staff come in and clean the place every day and are really helpful and friendly. All in all, a perfect little hideaway for a perfect little visit to Canggu. Would highly recommend”. “My husband and I stayed at the cottage for our honeymoon (Dec 2015). The cottage was beautiful and as pictured in the listing, and less than a 2 minute walk to the beach. Shinta arranged a scooter for us which we found useful for popping around Canggu for a bite to eat and nearby Seminyak. We are on the adventurous side so we spent more time exploring than in the cottage. The onsite staff were helpful and kept the cottage and grounds in great (website hidden) unit in the bedroom upstairs was sufficient to keep that room cool and minimize the amount of mosquitoes. “We stayed at Hidden River Cottage in mid-December and had a fabulous time. We were a bit concerned about bringing our little baby with us but it all worked out perfectly as Shinta provided a brand new cot. The place itself is a little gem – beautifully designed and furnished, with a comfy king-sized bed, strong wifi, funky bathroom and kitchen and of course a little private garden and pool – perfect for us and our little one. The cottage was also spotless, due to the efforts of the maids, Kadek and Putu, who cleaned the place every day. We were able to stroll to the beach in a couple of minutes and, going in the other direction, to the local cafe (which doubles up as a yoga retreat), for breakfast and coffee, in less than two minutes. There are also lots of other family friendly cafes and restaurants a bit further away, almost all still reachable on foot. All in all, we felt the beautiful little cottage, with its friendly staff and proximity to beach, was the perfect place for a quick family getaway. “I do believe this villa is listed in 10 of the best stay for under $100, and rightly so. This is by far the best looking AirBnb unit I’ve ever stayed in. Nice design, cool interiors, large bathroom, clean king sized bed (made up daily), strong WiFi, an intimate pool, quiet environment… plus so close to the beach!! The popular Crate Cafe, Betelnut Cafe and Deus Ex Machina are also within walking distance to the villa which is awesome. Shinta had open communication prior and during stay, enhanced with staff closeby to attend my needs. My only gripe is that it is rather far out from town and I reckon it’ll be better if you rent a car or bike to travel around. My boyfriend and I spent 2 nights at the Hidden River Cottage at the beginning of December. The welcome was lovely by Kadek and Putu, the maids. The villa was perfect, very clean and cozy, I loved the decoration. Cute small pool and the villa is so close to the beach! We also hired a motorbike the same day we arrived so we could drive Canggu all around. I didn’t meet Shinta and Paul personally but the communication was excellent before and during our stay. I’ve never been hosted like this before, so much care from them! Definitively I recommend the Hidden River Cottage to everyone who wants to visit Canggu and stay in a beautiful and quite place. “This place is great for couples looking for privacy but who want to be within striking distance of nightlife (10 minute walk along the beach to the most happening nightlife spot in the area but you can’t hear anything from the villa, not even motorcycle passing through) and walking distance to the surf! We stayed for 3 nights in mid November. The cottage is really a one bedroom villa so you get separate areas for living, eating and relaxing (in the little garden and plunge pool). It was spotless when we arrived and the maids, Kadek and Putu, did a great job cleaning the place every day when we were there (even the towels smell of lavender). For a one bedroom villa of this calibre, and this close to the beach, this is also amazing value for money. Our only regret was that we didn’t book for longer. “We had a very nice stay at the Hidden River Cottage!! When arrived at the airport the driver was waiting for us to bring us to the cottage, he stopped for us for get money at the ATM and for buying a simcard for our phone, he was very friendly and makes you feel like family. The Cottage is really spacious and nice designed and with everything you need, i was impressed by the ceiling and balcony of the bedroom and the nice pludgepool in the garden. If you looking for some privacy then this is the place for stay. A maid came in daily and there is also a handyman for can help you if something not working. Its also only 200 meters from the beach and you have some nice restaurants and bars not so far from the cottage. We had rent a scooter from Shinta for only 4 dollar a day and we used it for explore the neighborhood and for the longer trips we asked the driver for show us around. We meeted Shinta in the evening after she arrived from Jakarta, we had some drinks at the big villa and she really make us feel like we where home. “When we arrived at the villa, we were greeted by Shinta and Paul, who were very friendly and made us feel very welcome after a really long trip! We were so pleased with Hidden River Cottage and it completely lived up to the photos online. It has been beautifully decorated, and is really spacious and a perfect place to call home for 2 weeks. Really comfortable and had everything we needed, including WiFi and Air Con in the bedroom. A maid came in daily, and there was always someone around if we needed anything, though we felt self-contained, which was the best of both worlds! The villa is about 2 minutes from the beach, and you can hear the sea! The beach was lovely, perfect for surfing or sunbathing. Five minutes to a beach bar and maybe a 15 minute walk to Echo Beach which has more bars and BBQs (and a pharmacy, we ran out of suncream!) Alternatively, a 15 minute walk along the road, and there are plenty of really nice places for breakfast and dinner or drinks. The only thing that was lacking was a supermarket, although there are a couple of small shops. Best to stop when you are out and about at a decent size one, if you need anything. When we ventured further out Shinta and her team were on hand to help us organise transport or suggest places for drinks or dinner. We went out to Seminyak quite a few times, we used taxis – though many people use scooters to get around. To Seminyak it is a 15 minute taxi ride and cost around 100k rp. each way. There are really amazing restaurants, with lovely food, (we spent a lot of time eating!) both Western and Indonesian cuisine. (top places were Metis, Sarong and Sardine – expensive, but worth it!) We also went to Sanur for a more relaxed beach day, with still shallow water, with sunbeds and cafes on hand. This was about an hour taxi ride from the villa – and completely worth the trip. Similarly UluWatu Temple and Jimbaran (beautiful sunset!), we did in a day trip, which was about an hour taxi ride. The taxi waited for us, and we paid a reasonable price for this, and it’s not uncommon for the taxi drivers to offer to wait. Ubud, which was a wonderful place to visit with a market and Monkey Forest, and took us an 1.5hours to get to from the villa, by taxi. We had an amazing stay in Bali, and were really pleased we chose Hidden River Cottage, being somewhere quiet was important to us, but with more than enough nearby to keep us occupied.
